The important role of a ward clerk

My role in the hospital is working at the front desk. My days are usually filled with chaos and a lot of movement around the unit.

My job is to keep everything flowing, from answering phones, updating charts, scheduling appointments, and making sure doctors and nurses have what they need logistically. Some days it feels like I’m juggling twenty things at once, like a call from the lab, a doctor asking for results, and a patient’s family trying to find their loved one’s room.

It’s stressful, but it’s also very rewarding. When things get hectic, I’m the one who keeps communication clear and calm. Once, I caught a missing order in a patient’s chart that could’ve delayed their treatment and it reminded me how even small details can make a huge impact.

Working in healthcare doesn’t always mean wearing scrubs. Sometimes it means keeping everything behind the scenes running smoothly.
